The 1989 Super Bowl XXIII & One of the Longest Drives in NFL History
Down 16-13 to the Bengals in the fourth-quarter of the 1989 Super Bowl XXIII, the San Francisco 49ers got the ball on their own eight yard line with 3:10 left on the clock.
John Frank caught one of the first passes from Joe Montana (for a first down). This started the 49er’s 92 yard march down the field in under three minutes to score the winning touchdown with just 34 seconds left in the game. It became, and still stands, as one of the longest & most exciting drives in NFL history. This would be the last year that John Frank would play pro NFL football.
